Production company Slim adds Directors Lionel Goldstein, aka Joe Vanhoutteghem and Koen Mortier, the Belgian directing duo known for their absurd, yet meaningful Equal Payday spots that won them Gold and Bronze in Cannes in 2021 and 2022, rounding their Lions tally to 14 total.

As Lionel Goldstein, the duo creates documentary style campaigns that are often unsettling, yet equally funny, allowing the viewers to empathise with the characters and ultimately creating comic relief and awareness. Over the years Goldstein’s reel has come to encompass a wide range of sharp and witty films that bring a special flavour to the international advertising landscape.

On their own Vanhoutteghem and Mortier turn to their individual styles: Joe Vanhoutteghem’s dream-like realities combined with his dynamic camera, fluid transitions and slightly abstract yet charming motivation make for a distinguished taste. His characters are relatable, and his storytelling evokes curiosity. Vanhoutteghem’s favorite projects have been for Nike, Ikea, Unicef, Arte and Sexual Abuse Awareness Innocence and Danger for which he took home a Silver Lion for Direction.

Koen Mortier’s work goes under your skin. The emotions he evokes range from shock to soothing, mourning to surprise. His films are either deeply rooted in reality or completely let you in on the trick. They are memorable and leave you wanting more. Mortier also directs feature films and music videos, having won many awards in all three disciplines. Some of his clients include VW, Deutsche Bank, Hornbach, Mitsubishi and Nike.

Apart they are Vanhoutteghem and Mortier, together they are Lionel.
