Virulens Adds Director Maria Demopoulous

Director Maria Demopoulous joins a growing roster at Virulens in L.A.

Virulens, the Los Angeles studio headed by Executive Producers Mark McCormick and Chris Conlu, has signed Director Maria Demopoulos for exclusive commercial representation worldwide.

"We couldn't be more thrilled", says McCormick about the signing.  "Not only is Maria an incredible talent, but also a wonderful person. Her work conveys an authentic sensitivity to human emotion that stems from the very core of her character.  I've known her for many years and I'm just incredibly honored that she has chosen to team up with us."

Demopoulos was previously represented by Z Group Films.  There she directed spots for SC Johnson, Mervyns, Mandalay Bay, Spectrum Health and Xcel Energy, among others.  Her work spans lifestyle, soft fashion and documentary categories.

She joins Virulens following the successful debut of her documentary feature "The Source" at SXSW. The film chronicles the story of the Source Family, a glamorous utopian cult based in Los Angeles during the 1970's.  Drawn to a darkly magnetic guru calling himself "Father Yod," the 140-or so members lived together in a Hollywood Hills mansion above their star-studded vegetarian restaurant on the Strip.

Demopoulos joins a growing studio that fosters artists with diverse skills, McCormick says.  These include the Writer/Director duo Commonwealth, feature and short film Writer/Director Jonathan Kesselman, former agency creative turned director Chip McDonald and, via its partnership with Curious Film in Auckland and Sydney, a slate of Kiwi and Aussie directors including Darryl Ward, Summer Agnew and Miki Magasiva.
