Following the tragic death of Swedish director Jhoan Camitz, a memorial fund has been set up to give a scholarship to a young Swedish film maker.
Camitz, who was killed in a freak accident in New York on August 10, had been restoring a turn-of-the-century sailing boat with his father and one of his brothers.
Maria Tamander, Camitz’s executive producer and partner at modfilm for ten years, pays tribute to her friend in the next issue of shots magazine.
“More than anything, Jhoan was looking forward to the prospect of sailing his boat with his family, his girlfriend, and his friends. That was why he was planning to come home to Sweden this summer, but he never made it,” she says. “It therefore seemed only fitting that we should set up a memorial fund to complete the boat and to charter her to generate funds for a scholarship. Once a year those of us who loved him will gather to award a scholarship to a young Swedish film maker – a new Jhoan perhaps.”
