W+K Make Asses into Vases for HIV Charity
Two Wieden+Kennedy creatives team with an artist to make the Arse Vase, with proceeds going to Positive East.
Wieden + Kennedy London creatives Freddy Taylor and Paddy Treacy have teamed with queer artist Fredrik Andersson to launch the Arse Vase just in time for Pride, with money from each vase sold going to an East London charity supporting people with HIV.
The ceramic backsides, the premiere vase based on a derriere, were created as part of the agency's Spore Fund Scheme, which funds personal creative projects of W+K creatives. A limited edition run of 100 have been created, which are retailing at arsevase.com for £40 plus postage and packaging. Don't all go to the site at once, though; we'd hate for there to be a bum rush...
Proceeds will go to Positive East, an East London HIV charity. Ian Montgomery of the charity said of the project, "the money raised from the Arse Vases will enable us to provide direct care and activities – ranging from counselling to group support - to more than 1,700 people living with HIV in east London over the next year. It will also support our HIV prevention activities and allow us to provide 1,500 free, confidential and rapid HIV tests and provide sexual health information out in the community” - a worthy cause for the W+K creatives to back(side)...
The artist responsible for the vases, Fredrik Andersson, said of them, "in recent years, I have realised that as an artist you have a responsibility to give something back to the queer community that is such a big part of my life. The opportunity to do it in the shape of a bum was just the cherry on top.”
