[Top: Watson-Wood's shortlisted promo for Francobollo, Wonderful]
What’s the best promo you’ve seen recently and why?
Jay-Z Story of OJ [below]. It’s just done so well. The character animation is incredible. That old animation style and the music goes wonderfully well together.
What’s the first promo you remember being impressed by?
Karma Police [below] absolutely blew my nine-year-old mind and I haven’t been the same since.
And what’s your all-time favourite music video?
That’s an impossible question as I’m a Gemini and can never have just one! But Keith Schofield’s video for Darwin Deez You Can’t Be My Girl [below] just popped into my head as being pretty damn good. Hilariously simple idea, and executed perfectly.
What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?
Buddha, Allah, Jesus; you know, the greats. And always Ninian Doff!
What are you listening to at the moment?
Goat, Bo Diddley, Blur, Unknown Mortal Orchestra. (But also my intuition).
What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?
My new GTX1080TI GPU graphics card – pretty cool.
What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?
Kendrick Lamar [above] or Jon Hopkins.
How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?
People are always complaining that you can’t make money in music videos but I just don’t get it! (Chris’ answer brought to you by the all new GTX1080TI GPU graphics card.)
Music videos have had a resurgence of late; where do you see the industry being in five years’ time?
Supermarkets throughout Europe!
Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…
I was the lead guitarist in my own death metal band, Baphomet.
