Multi-faceted artist, Mahaneela, has signed to Academy’s roster as a director and photographer. Mahaneela has established herself in her own right after creating content for some of the most influential international brands, such as Converse, Adidas, Nike and Eurostar, as well as working with prominent record labels, XL Recordings, Young Turks and Because Music, and photographing artists like Sampha, The xx and FKA Twigs, among others. Her work has been featured in artistically-acclaimed publication, I-D Magazine, and she was named one of The Dots’ female creative leaders for 2018.
Mahaneela also takes intimate portraits and makes films that explore the experiences of people of colour across the world, mainly in African and Asian diasporas. Her debut promo was for Denai Moore, an artist she also manage, whereas her first short film Kindred screened at the Tate Modern’s Soul of a Nation: Art in the age of Black Power exhibition. Mahaneela also promotes herself as a writer, curator and founder of music consultancy agency COZY, and has also co-founded all women collective and agency, In Bloom.
