Two landmark events for emerging directorial talent take place today: the New Directors Showcase and the Young Director Award.
Now in its 28th year, 2018 marks a special edition of Saatchi & Saatchi's long-running showcase, as it has been curated by acclaimed director and RSA Films founder Ridley Scott, to celebrate RSA's 50 years of commercial production. Scott, who was recently honoured with a BAFTA fellowship and whose film credits include All the Money in the World, Alien: Covenant, and The Martian, has worked with Saatchi & Saatchi and MPC to select this year’s reel of the best new directing talent. It's always a popular session, so be sure to arrive early to get a seat.
Later on in the afternoon, the winners of the shots-backed Young Director Award will be revealed at a ceremony at the JW Marriott, along with a seminar and panel discussion on creative relationships. shots editor, Danny Edwards, will be talking to director Terence Neale and his producer Rozanne Rocha-Gray about their creative partnership and how it works, before being joined on stage by founding partner and creative director of Johannes Leonardo, Ferdinando Verderi, and Jenny Pham, adidas Originals' senior director, global brand marketing & communications. The quartet, who have worked together on award-winning spots for adidas Originals, will discuss how trust, talent and togetherness can foster great work.
The New Directors Showcase is at 10am today at the Lumiere Theatre, Palais des Festivals.
