Fun, colorful, and (pardon the pun) poppy, Thought Bubbles merges a dreamy aesthetic with the mental gymnastics of trying to reach someone else.
Recreating the out-of-body experience when you try to reach someone you care about, distance is represented by bubbles that separate Teddi Gold from her phone, cat, and surroundings. The piece is strange and wonderful, merging styles and animation techniques to create a richly layered, ever-moving target for friendship and connection.
“I used the theme of bubbles and bursting bubbles to represent the process of waking up from fantasy to reality. The boundary between the two blurs as the bubbles start carrying away everything that was left behind,” says director and animator Zohar Dvir of Greatcoat Films.
