This touching film centers on migrant workers who have come from Malaysia to Singapore to create a better life for themselves and their families.
Usually, these people would be able to go home to spend Ramadan with their families, but because of border closures, many have been separated from their loved ones for almost a year. McDonald’s created a way for families to be together by using a projector and some specially delivered food.
Although the virtual shared table has been done many times since the pandemic started, this piece ties it to a larger purpose, bringing a heightened sense of importance to the piece. With both a religious holiday, families, and social issues at play, Sufyan Sam’an brings honesty and sadness to an ad that might have been too sentimental under another’s direction. My Happy Table was developed by Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore and produced by Digital Cartel.
