Last night saw the British Arrows dish out their annual awards at Battersea Evolution. Now in its 43rd year, the prestigious event saw over 1,100 people dress up in their finest to celebrate and honour all the winners across 13 Arrows categories and 24 Craft categories.

The multi awards winners on the night were for Essity’s Viva La Vulva, made for AMVBBDO by Somesuch, directed by Kim Gehrig; John Lewis and Partners’ The Boy And The Piano, made for adam&eveDDB by Academy, directed by Seb Edwards – both winning three gold arrows, two gold craft and a silver arrow each.

However, one team that needed to bring a quiver to bring home all of the arrows they picked up was the brains behind Nike’s Nothing Beats a Londoner, made for Wieden+Kennedy by Riff Raff, directed by Megaforce

The film picked up 14 awards – six gold arrows, six gold craft and two silver craft, including Commercial of the Year and Best Crafted Commercial.

Opening the show was the BAD Award, presented by Cat Shanu. BAD’s CLASS of 2019 - made up of young people who have either successfully gained employment in the ad industry through BAD or are work ready – also formed the BAD Jury. The 16-fold jury put forward commercials from 2018 that they enjoyed, represented them or spoke to them.

This was Charlie Crompton’s final show as Chair of the Board after a three-year tenure and, together with Chaka Sobhani, CCO of Leo Burnett and Chair of the ARROWS and Shananne Lane, Executive Producer of 4Creative, they presented 7 special awards, 75 ARROWS between the agencies and production companies and 45 CRAFT awards to the nominees themselves.

The British Arrows board felt that two Arrows’ Fellowship Awards should be presented this year to reflect the brilliance of agency and craft personalities. The remarkable Anthony Moore from Factory was awarded first with presentations from Dougal Wilson and James Rouse.  Followed by a surprise announcement from Dexter Fletcher for the legendary Graeme Light.

Advertiser of Excellence, sponsored by WALKER, was awarded to Nike for their continued delivery of inspiring advertising worldwide.
