Knucklehead signs directing duo Pretty Angels
The women behind the name are Amy York Rubin and Pilar Boehm, two pretty little angels who also consider themselves dirty devils.
Things just got a little funnier around here. Knucklehead welcome award-winning directing duo Pretty Angels to the roster.
The women behind the name are Amy York Rubin and Pilar Boehm, two pretty little angels who also consider themselves dirty devils. But for ease, we call them P&A.
Amy started her career on the stage… and quickly exited stage right after blacking out during a UCB improv show and realizing she had a face for directing. The decision panned out as she’s since directed everything from ABC’s Grownish to the Golden Globe-winning series Casual and worked with comedy legends like Kate McKinnon, Amy Schumer, Rashida Jones, Sarah Silverman, Maria Bamford, Kaitlin Olson, Sharon Horgan… and some men too. Like the gorgeous Randall Park or the truly stunning James Marsden, who Amy directed alongside Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini in the pilot of Dead to Me, where she set the vision for the award-winning Netflix series.
Realizing that her other-half was an untapped cash cow of creativity, Rubin and Boehm soon took their relationship to the next level, eloping into the world of a full creative partnership. Pilar quit her old life as a psychotherapist, they sold a twisted sci-fi show to AMC, and began directing together. They hit the ground running, co directing a branded comedy spot starring Maribeth Monroe of Workaholics fame. Then, moved on to direct the pilot and an episode of Love, Victor - which became Hulu’s most binged original show of 2020. Not a bad start for two dirty devil angels.
While Rubin had already dipped her toes into the world of branded content, delivering laughs for brands such as Google, Hyundai, Vanity Fair, and GQ, now with Boehm they’re ready to get in even deeper. They say that if they had balls, they would be balls deep. But they don’t. And, in this moment when everyone cares about diversity, we’re thrilled to welcome these lesbian ladies who proudly identify as Hams to the team.
“Being a Ham has been a long journey...” Rubin muses. “There have been many times in my life when people, even my own family members, have asked me to reconsider… have pleaded with me to stop being ‘such a ham.’ Fortunately, in Boehm, I met a weirdo who not only encouraged me to be the biggest Ham I could be, but was also willing to join me on this incredible journey. And together, we’re thrilled to transition to the next phase, Knuckleheads.”
Cathleen Kisich, Knucklehead’s Managing Director, says, “This is the first time we’ve let a director write their own press release and it feels like a success. I’ve been a fan of P&A for years and I’m so excited to have them on board. Looking forward to all the fun in our future.
