All that Jazz: Director Marcelo Garcia Signs with Filmtecknarna

The multi-talented Marcelo Garcia signs with Filmtecknarna.

Filmtecknarna, the production company based in Stockholm and New York, has signed director Marcelo Garcia, principal of Sao Paolo based Molho TV. Filmtecknarna will represent Garcia in the US and Canadian markets, as well as several markets in Northern Europe. According to Filmtecknarna Global Executive Producer Lars Ohlson, "Depending on the nature of the project, Marcelo will be available through our New York and Stockholm studios, as well as via Molho in Sao Paulo."

Garcia, whose work through Molho includes commercials, show opens, broadcast packages, installations and new media, blends traditional design animation with live action, illustration, typography and graphics. A diverse array of projects includes work for Toyota, Coca-Cola, Nike, HBO, Discovery, Nestle, DuPont, Volkswagen, MTV, The New York Times and Diesel. He also directed the main titles for Focus Features and Director Darren Aronofsky, and directed the background and "digital sets" for the 2009 world premiere of Moura's opera "Dulcinela e Trancoso" and the Teatro Santa Isabel.

A trained jazz musician, Garcia Marcelo graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he studied composition and performance, followed by a degree in graphic design from Art Center in Pasadena, financed by a grant from the Brazilian government. Both experiences imbue his work with a distinct international feel, as does his more than 15 years spent living in the US, Europe and Singapore. Prior to  founding Molho in 2007 he was at Lobo in San Paulo and at Fabrica, Benetton's center of experimental communications.

Commenting on Filmtecknarna's recent expansion, including the signing of additional directors in the US, Ohlson further comments, , "with our recent international director signing we are fortunate to have attracted talent that is mobile but offer their own studios in Germany, Spain and Brazil."

In North America, Filmtecknarna is represented by Saarinen on the West Coast, Hilly Reps in the Midwest and Judy Wolff on the East Coast.
