The term ‘The Man Box’ refers to a rigid set of expectations, perceptions, and actions that are considered “manly”, imposed on men by society, and by none more so than men themselves.
Drawing on this concept and attempting to (gently) break it down, this sweet short film from Golden LA director Martina Magorin, titled Oh Boys, challenges toxic gender norms of aggression and machismo with some hilarious, tender, touchy-feely tomfoolery.
Set against typically hyper-masculine environments such as cars, the office, and the gym, protagonists respond to arising conflict by cuddling, tickling, giggling, and generally goofing around; behaviours that would be considered firmly outside of the Man Box.
