What is it to be a mother? To mark Thailand’s Mother’s Day this Saturday, Johnson’s Baby has commissioned BBDO Bangkok to create a spot focusing on four devoted mums who’ve encountered prejudice for not fitting into Thai society’s stereotype of what a mother should be.
“People probably worry for my son, having a mother like me,” says beautiful, smiley Kajib – just because she has lots of tattoos. Hardworking Aum considers herself “in a different social class” and “doesn’t want to embarrass her child” by showing up at events. Gay and trans mums Benz and Day are equally anxious on their children’s behalf.
Directed with great compassion and warmth by Duangtawan Sirikoon through Bangkok-based B1 Films, The Other Mother’s Day shows these four very different mums brought out of the cold through the loving testimonies of their children, to take their rightful place alongside the other mums on Mother’s Day.
