Backyard continues its venture into international directorial representation with the addition of Luis Carone. An award-winning director with specializations in visual effects and post-production, he helmed his first music video in 2004. As of this past September, he has been directing television spots for Fernando Meirelles’ production company, 02 Filmes, which is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Some of Carone’s most recent work includes a spot for mobile phone company Claro, based on the concept that people can listen to music on their cell phones from anyplace in the world. For this project, Carone and his crew ended up filming in three different Brazilian states in an attempt to capture interesting moments inspired by these locations and the people who live there.

Carone is especially fond of high-end, cinematic quality and considers achieving this type of production value to be his current primary goal. He earned the title of Best Music Video Director in Brazil in both 2005 and 2006, and hopes to continue directing music videos while segueing into the world of commercial production. Carone also spent time in London working as a 3D motion graphics designer for The Mill when he was only 19 years old.

“Besides being able to show the world as I see it,” Carone said, “ I find it incredible to have the chance to enter different realms. Even if it is a day-to-day moment, to be able to take people out of their homes and into a different place, the way I want, is always fascinating.”

Backyard is one of the top 25 commercial production companies in the industry, headquartered in Venice, California. Co-owned by Roy Skillicorn and Blair Stribley, Backyard’s roster is comprised of eleven directors including Rob Pritts, Kevin Smith, Don Rase, Chace Strickland, Nick Piper, Jeffrey Karoff, Jesper Ericstam, Ericson Core, Rob Sanders, John Immesoete and Aaron Stoller. All directors have representation nationally with The Family (East Coast) Them Reps (Mid West), Boss Talent (West Coast) and internationally throughout the UK and Canada. Also working under the umbrella of Backyard Holdings is Transistor Studios and Seed. Transistor Studios is a highly regarded multiplatform production company whose work includes interactive, live-action, motion graphics, web, DVD and print design within the commercial, broadcast and entertainment industries. Seed is a content company that creates and produces programming for traditional and emerging media with a unique “one stop” approach.
