At first glance, Slash Dynamic director Kiran Koshy’s latest campaign for Zaxby’s, Guy On A Buffalo Wing, might seem like the flight of fancy of a talented lunatic.
However, the film is actually an endearingly authentic tribute to a ten-year-old viral sensation, which saw excerpts of public domain movie Buffalo Rider musically narrated by Jomo Edwards of the Austin-based honky-tonk band, The Possum Posse.
Bringing Edwards back for this spiritual sequel, as well as the original actor, the new campaign from agency Tombras eschews the real-life dangers of the original for something more dreamlike - real-life bears replaced by talking animal puppets and the titular bovine swapped for an oversized nugget.

“This project presented me with a delightful smorgasbord of challenges," comments Koshy. "We had to figure out a longer linear piece that told a complete story around the product and served as a music video which paid homage to the original Man on A Buffalo viral videos.
“I have to give thanks to my stellar production designer, JT Camp and his art department crew. He built a tasty giant buffalo wing that moved and undulated perfectly. The shoot was a barrel of laughs…I loved every second of it and was quite depressed when we were done shooting.
"I knew I’d probably shot the craziest thing I’d ever do, and would now search far and wide trying to beat it.”
