Created by Coming Soon for gambling brand Betclic in partnership with stock photography company Shutterstock, this gorgeously-shot short film dives deep into the world of young African girls who surf to find confidence and break down gender barriers.
Directed by Ana Filipa Domingues through Shutterstock Studios, Surfing Through The Odds combines documentary style footage with sublime, meditative underwater shots to capture the transformative power of surfing in creating a generation of self-assured young women.
The brands’ intention was to rectify the lack of representation of black female surfers by filming photographing these young women, who have become the first black female surfers to be featured in an images/videos collection, whilst giving SOMA the visibility it needed to continue its life-changing work.
