Winners of Porsche Award 2019 announced
The 16th Porsche Awards were held in London, with social spots and classical commercials among the winners.
The judges of the 16th Porsche Award 2019 have reached a decision. On Thursday evening (21 November 2019), the jury announced the winners of the international advertising film prize for junior talents.
The awards ceremony was held at the Curzon Cinema in London’s Soho, the second time it has been hosted in the UK since 2016. The event was jointly organised by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg (FABW) and its partner, the National Film and Television School (NFTS), two of the world's leading film, games and television schools. The evening was hosted by presenter and jury member, Patrick Cahill.
After an anonymous pre-selection process, the independent international jury chose three winners in each of the two prize categories: Mobility Category and Classical Category / Other Formats.

They agreed on the following advertising films:
MOBILITY CATEGORY
1st Prize (€3,911): Nikolas Meyberg – Brothers – Lazi Akademie, Germany
2nd Prize (€2,911): Daniel Eceolaza – The Chase – Germany
3rd Prize (€1,911): Magali Herzog and Miguel Schmid – Small Talk – Germany
CLASSICAL CATEGORY / OTHER FORMATS
1st Prize (€3,911): Pascal Schelbli – The Beauty – FABW (Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg), Animation Institute, Germany
2nd Prize (€2,911): Timm Völkner – Aura – FABW (Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg), Germany
3rd Prize (€1,911): Benjamin Leichtenstern – Made for Strength – HFF Munich (University of Television and Film), Germany
With one first and one second prize, the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg was able to snatch two awards. The Beauty was made at the Filmakademie´s Animation Institute, Aura in the study course Motion Design. Moreover, FABW graduate Daniel Steiner makes a memorable appearance as the protagonist in the winning spot Small Talk.
The motor racing story Brothers (1st Prize Mobility Category) convinced the jury:
with its competent execution and great production value. It is well directed, beautifully shot and fast paced, which makes watching it an altogether worthwhile experience.
The jury was also captivated by the social spot The Beauty (1st Prize Classical Category / Other Formats) against the pollution of the oceans:
The film picks up a current issue and conveys it in a very imaginative way, with great storytelling, beautifully crafted animation and a documentary-style voice over that sets you on wrong tracks and works well with the spot´s dystopian vision.

Oliver Hoffmann, Director of Marketing Communications at Porsche said: "With the Porsche Award, we have been promoting young advertising film talents for 16 years now. The creativity and high standard of the awarded films gives us the confidence that early support of younger staff in moving image marketing is of benefit for both sides.”
Prof. Thomas Schadt, Director of the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg commented: "Strengthening the Filmakademie´s international focus is one of our most important tasks to ensure its lasting success in the future. Therefore I am delighted that with the aid of our partner school the NFTS, the award ceremony was held in London for the second time. Of course I am also very grateful to all our supporters, especially Porsche for their long-lasting trust and endorsement.“
NFTS Director Jon Wardle added: “London is one of the world’s most important advertising film centres and the NFTS is delighted to have been involved in bringing the Porsche Awards to the capital once again. It has been a thrilling ride witnessing the work of the next generation of emerging film talent in advertising. At the NFTS, many students who graduate from our Directing Commercials Diploma go on to work on ad campaigns across the globe. We are proud to play our part tonight and in developing the raw talent and skills required in an ever changing industry.”
