Yessian Opens in Europe
The US-based music and sound design studio opens an office in Hamburg to handle increased global assignments.
Yessian Says Hello to Hamburg

U.S.-based Yessian Music has opened a new office in Hamburg, Germany, and named Executive Producer Ingmar Rehberg to head up its operations there. The office was the result of a strong industry response to the company’s work both in Germany and around the globe. The move coincides with the studio’s expansion into new projects that lie outside the realm of scoring and creating sound design for traditional TV spots; for example, it is currently working on diverse set of projects that range from amusement parks to iTunes apps to social media networks and web films.
As a seasoned performer with over 500 live concerts to his name, Rehberg brings to Yessian ten years’ experience as a music producer for Germany’s advertising industry. The positioning of Rehberg as EP in the Hamburg office was a necessity in meeting client demands, the company says. Prior to opening the studio, Yessian created and licensed tracks for global projects not only in Europe, but also in China, Australia, South America, Africa, Japan and Russia.
Examples of Yessian’s global work include its collaboration with the German agency Grabarz & Partner on successful campaigns for Volkswagen (see “Amarok” here) and Ikea, as well as with BBDO/Moscow for Pepsi and a 4D theater experience at the Happy Valley amusement park in Shenzhen and Shanghai, China. Currently, Yessian is creating music for an entertainment venue that will arise in one of the world’s fastest growing metropolises, Abu Dhabi.
Other recent Yessian projects include “Triangle,” one of four interactive stories created for an iPad app. (For more on this project, click here.) Under the heading “Touching Stories,” the shorts allow users to participate, navigate, unlock and reveal experiences directly with the characters. They were created and produced by Domani Studios.
Yessian has also been collaborating with popular artists to create original music for brands. One example is GMC’s “Tilt Shift,” an animated spot featuring “Dream a Better Way,” written and performed by Tim Hanuaer, produced for digital agency Digitas. Publicis/New York recently approached Yessian to write original rap lyrics and music for Bounty paper towels. The result was a viral video that’s generated over one million viewers. It spawned a second video, this one starring Rev Run of Run DMC. Both feature music and lyrics created by Yessian’s DJ Central Rush, aka Mark Chu.
Yessian’s social media chops are underscored by the large number of requests to reveal a track specifically created for the Blackberry Torch. (See the video that it accompanies here.) The track caused quite an internet stir, with viewer comments demanding a full-length song and even one user who created a tutorial on YouTube so that other aspiring musicians could learn the piano melody.
Yessian’s global expansion, as well as the studio’s commitment to its clients, continues to be at the company’s core. Last month they partnered with Sorted Noise, a music writing and producing team lead by Thad Beaty, touring guitarist of the Grammy Award-winning band Sugarland. Based out of Nashville, the Sorted Noise Artist Alliance offers the studio an additional select group of artists that create original music for TV, film and advertising.
With offices in New York, Detroit, Los Angeles and now Europe, Yessian is a true global collective of producers, composers, music supervisors, research creatives and recording artists. With six full-service recording studios and its Dragon Licks music licensing and research division, which focuses on indie bands and well-known artists, the studio offers a complete source for music, sound design and soundscapes.
