A new campaign for Bacardi Breezer breaks nationally on terrestrial and satellite TV this week. The resulting ad, ‘Tom Cat’, features the ‘hero cat’ of successful kid-flick ‘Stuart Little’.
Created by McCann-Erickson London and directed by Great Guns directing duo Who?, the spot opens with an old lady chatting to her cat about her domestic routine. Obviously bored, the cat disappears through his cat flap for a night on the tiles. He knocks over some bottles of Breezer as he walks through the City and approaches a nightclub. Bypassing the queue, he is recognised by a regular clubber who lets him in. Once inside, he struts the length of the bar to be acknowledged by the other clubbers to be stroked by various women and to nuzzle the breast of a girl sitting at the bar.
The DJ nods in recognition as puss hits the dance floor. Up on his hind legs, an audience gathers as he starts dancing for an appreciative audience. The film closes with Tom returning home to the old lady the following morning who greets him with: “Oh Tom, have you been out chasing birds again?” Cue the super ‘Bacardi Breezer’There’s Latin Spirit in Everyone’.
According to Who? the most difficult aspect of the shoot was helping the cats to “find their motivation”.
“We were expecting prima donnas as they flew first class with their trainers; arrived in Prague via stretched limos, and had to rest before the shoot for three days as they were suffering from jetlag and dehydration after the journey from LA. But they proved to be truly professional pussies and got into character with remarkable ease.”
