It might have launched back in July of last year, but we just couldn’t fail to mention the FWA’s newly-crowned website of 2009, online space experience wechoosethemoon.org.

Launched by the JFK Presidential Library and The Martin Agency to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong becoming the first man to walk on the moon, the interactive website relives Apollo 11’s momentous journey minute by minute as it cruises into the history books.

Dividing the journey into 11 stages, the site combines audio, video and photo archives to transport users back to The Eagle’s four-day journey from Florida to the Sea of Tranquility in July 1969.

In a modern twist, the site also transfers the stream of communication between Houston and the astronauts into the 21st-century by using a Twitter feed.

A well-deserved winner, and an engaging, out-of-this-world experience for those of us who’ll never make it beyond cyber space.
