Music+Sound Awards 2013: The Heavy to Headline
The second instalment of the UK Music+Sound Awards will be led by a set from The Heavy this February.
The Music+Sound Awards 2013 will be headlined by internationally acclaimed band The Heavy, when the event takes place at London’s Troxy this February.
Following recent sell-out tours of North America and the UK, The Heavy are set to ignite the Music+Sound Awards stage with their unique blend of gospel-inspired soul and garage rock.
The band impressed on David Letterman’s Late Show recently when they performed How You Like Me Now?, leading to Letterman asking for more – the only time he has ever requested an encore. When they returned to perform their latest single What Makes A Good Man?, he not only asked for another encore, but joined in on backing vocals. The single was also used as the official theme song for this year’s WWE Royal Rumble pay per view event and has gathered much momentum in the past few weeks.
Nick Payne and Dan Neale, founders of the Music+Sound Awards, say of the band: “The Heavy have had some high profile syncs because the energy in their songs works so well when put to picture, for example in The Fighter. This as well as the fact the band are renowned for their amazing live performances, makes them the perfect headline act for the Music+Sound Awards.”
Launched in 2011 to recognise and celebrate the role of music and sound in Advertising, Film, Television and Gaming, the Music+Sound Awards is back for a second year, this time hosting its ceremony at Troxy, East London. Further acts are due to be announced in the coming weeks, while the shortlist of finalists will be announced at the beginning of February.
The Music+Sound Awards 2013 is also supporting Nordoff Robbins, the national music therapy charity. In addition to fundraising surprises planned for the Awards ceremony itself, there’s an opportunity to make a donation when buying tickets for the event.
With all the entries now in and the judging process well underway, organisers of the Awards have announced that tickets are now on sale to music and media professionals at MAS Awards.
The event - taking place on Thursday 21 February - is set to once again ignore the black ties and round tables in favour of an ‘indoor music festival’ feel, with The Heavy at its heart.
