Fighting cancer is one of the hardest things that anyone can go through.

Even if you are not directly inflicted with the disease, you can still suffer its wrath thanks to the debilitating qualities it imposes on its sufferers.

But Dutch NGO Fight Cancer has devised a method to literally combat the illness… using an interactive punch bag.

As if that’s not enough, each hit will raise money for further cancer research.

Created by entrepreneur Thijs Biersteker and production company MediaMonks as a prototype for Creative Press Challenge – a competition that encourages emerging artists to produce work for charities – the punch bag contains over 4000 LEDs that react according to each fighter.

Participants must enter their sex, age and lifestyle into the punch bag, which will generate an animated LED display of their estimated cancer cells.

The installation shows how quickly cells can grow and encourages participants to fight back and do something to help the charity’s cause.

“I’m not a doctor or a scientific genius, so when a loved one becomes ill, I feel like a bystander,” says creator Biersteker. “With this interactive punching bag you can really join them in their fight by stepping in the ring and punch cancer in the cells, raising funds for cancer research punch by punch.”

The punch bag is traveling across the Netherlands and visiting countless gyms in an attempt to garner support, spread the word about Fight Cancer and make sure cancer sufferers are no longer battling it alone. For more information, visit the website.
