Last week, adland's finest gathered at London nightclub, Ministry of Sound, to celebrate the winners of Homespun Yarns' fourth short film competition.

Directors Ben Fallows and Felix Brady took home the prize for their Winston & Daisy short (below).

This included a £500 cheque, 2000ft of Kodak 16mm film stock, use of the Kodak Film Lab, hire of a Panavision 16mm film camera, automatic shortlist to the 2018 Kinsale Shark Awards, two tickets to the UKMVAs and Avid software license.

This year's competition featured four finalists, whose films were screened on the night. All of them incorporated one of the eight clips provided to reflect the 2017 theme, Fragments. And all finalists received support across production, post and editing aspects as well as funding to realise their projects.

“It’s incredible how the film community has come together to make these films," says Homespun owner & editor, Tim Hardy. "They were made possible by people giving their time and going the extra mile, which is really inspiring."

Other runners up in the competition included:

  • Ben Gough with How A Kit Flies

  • Saim Ainsworth Agent Ironneck

  • Dorothy Allen Pickard The Mess

Look out for an interview with the winning directors in issue 174 of shots, out in December.
