Framestore has excelled itself with its animated greetings card this year. The creative studio has produced a succession of beautiful illustrations and witty images that depict Father Christmas's tragectory through history.
Starting with a pre-historic iteration in which the jovial gift-giver wings across the heavens on a pterodactyl, he then swaps mammoths for reindeer, and later morphs into an early green-suited Santa on a scroll bearing medieval monastic illuminations.
The devil – or Saint Nicholas – is in the detail, in Leonardo Da Vinci's technical drawings planning out a Rennaissance sleigh with mechanical wings, the artist has signed his name 'Da Finci' with the 'F' being the Framestore logo.
As we approach the modern age, we getting flying ducks with Santa hats, and finally the big beardy dude has doffed his red suit and is sunbathing on a tropical beach ordering drone deliveries of Christmas pressies from his tablet.
