Tate: Van Gogh and Britain

Now this is a damn classy bit of film. A collaboration between the Tate's digital wing and one of Blink's youngest directors, Nadira Amrani, it promotes the gallery's upcoming exhibition, The EY Exhibition Van Gogh and Britain. 

Dripping with urban chic and knowing artfulness it features a tableaux of scenes that wittily reference some of the finest paintings of the great, tortured one-eared Dutchman. All set to an achingly cool track, Hazey, written by David Bayley and performed by Glass Animals.

The major exhibition runs from 27 March to 11 August and gathers together 45 works by Vincent Van Gogh that reveal how he was inspired by Britain and how he inspired British artists. It’s the largest collection of his paintings to be seen in the UK for nearly a decade.

Some of his most famous works will be brought together from around the world – including Shoes, Starry Night on the Rhône, L'Arlésienne, and two works he made while a patient at the Saint-Paul Asylum, At Eternity’s Gate and Prisoners Exercising. They will be joined by the very rarely lent Sunflowers from London’s National Gallery.
