The act of bathing, despite it's (hopeful) regularity, always manages to be a process of physical, emotional and ... er ... actual cleansing. Steeped in symbolism; a ritual for most, luxury for some; the wish for, and need to, have a good wash is something that we all have in common. And, as this lovely documentary suggests, it's something that unites us too.
Lush, taking a break from overwhelming the senses with the bold colours and nasal-alerting fragrances present in their stores, instead offer a quiet, personal and moving collection of vignettes detailing bathers from all corners of the world and exploring their private ruminations, testimonies and personal revelations.
Shot with a delicate hand by Annex Films' Phoebe Arnstein, We the Bathers' no-nonsense approach to nudity and incredible access to the subjects' most intimate moments and thoughts gives it a charming authenticity that makes it truly compelling to watch.
