To mark World Refugee Day 2019, Strange Beast director Anna Ginsburg has teamed up with London painter Melissa Kitty Jarram to create this mesmerising short film.
An animated narration of an eponymous poem by Warsan Shire - who lent her actual voice to the project - Ugly combines the haunting narrative of a female refugee fleeing a war-torn country with bold, otherworldly visuals.
Each shot started with a original painting by Jarram, painstakingly recreated digitally, with each frame taking up to an hour to complete.
