BBDO Detroit Lays Off 145
Cuts in spending by Chrysler have prompted a major reduction in force at BBDO in Detroit, where published reports claim 145 positions have been eliminated.
A major cut in spending by its beleaguered Chrysler client has prompted BBDO Detroit to eliminate 22 percent of its work force, the agency has announced. The layoffs have hit all departments, from creative, account management and production to support roles like IT and administrative. Chrysler spending has dipped to $800 million from $1.1 billion a year ago, reports indicated, as sales have plunged. The office handles the Chrysler and Dodge brands, while sibling agency Cutwater in San Francisco handles Jeep. Much of the brand’s work over the past months has been heavy on sales promotion, with campaigns touting guarantees on fuel costs and another campaign that positioned the latest models from the various brands as sale items in a department store. |
