Lubars Named Jury President for Film, Press in Cannes

As if he’s not busy enough, David Lubars, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of BBDO North America, has been named to head the Film and Press juries at the International Advertising Festival in Cannes next year.

Lubars has been the agency’s chief creative executive since 2004, and has overseen its ongoing transformation into a more modern creative and strategic enterprise capable of flourishing outside of its long-established comfort zone in TV commercials.   As a result, the agency has become one of the most awarded networks in the world, having been named Network of the Year in Cannes for the past two years running.  Last year, BBDO created the award-winning, multimedia, multiplatform "HBO Voyeur" project, which was awarded both the Outdoor and Promo Grand Prix.

Since beginning his career in 1981, Lubars has won every major creative award in the world, including multiple Grand Prix at Cannes, Grand Clio, Grand Andy, Gold Effie and D&AD Gold. His work has been named Best of Show at both the One Show and the Radio Mercury Awards, and has won the EMMY Award for best US TV commercial four times. He's been named Creative Director of the Year by Adweek; his legendary BMW Films were made part of MoMA's permanent collection in New York City and he won the first-ever awarded Titanium Lion at Cannes. In 2006 he chaired the Titanium Jury at Cannes.

“David is a visionary whose boundless creativity is an inspiration to us all," says Philip Thomas, CEO of Cannes Lions.  "He is a regular fixture on stage at Cannes, where he has collected Lions for outstanding work across multiple categories over many years. We are honored that he will be chairing the Film and Press categories next year."

Says Lubars, “I'm humbled to be chosen for this prestigious position. Film, in all forms, has taken on a new role and meaning in the ad industry, while press, though the oldest medium, still shows itself to be one of the freshest. I look forward to working with my fellow jurors to recognize the best of both forms."

Before joining BBDO, David was President of Fallon Worldwide and Executive Creative Director of Fallon North America, where he oversaw famous work for Citibank and BMW, among other brands. He also worked at BBDO on the West Coast earlier in his career, and was a partner in the highly regarded boutique agency Leonard Monahan Lubars.
