The vibrant watercolors and smooth illustrations of Mariana Trench dance, run, and tumble across the screen, creating a surreal and spectacular piece of work for the reunited Bright Eyes.
Bright Eyes might not have gotten the reunion year they were hoping for, but they’ve come out of the gate with a redirected music video that feels energetic, bright, and fun. As watercolor children run alongside bears and flowers, we see the world in a new light, after the destruction, at the last great party of the millennia. Animals, weeds, forests, people, and fires spring up across the animation.
Produced by Art Camp under the direction of 3D Animator/Technical Director, Matt Knudsen, the creatures and people we watch cavort in gardens and abandoned cathedrals feel fully realized and mournful. It’s soft and lovely, with a color palette that speaks to the ending, the last dance, the sad song at the end of a beloved record.
