"Bucket Board" Lands in Theaters

Vimeo has teamed up with independent theater chain Spotlight Cinemas to bring curated content from Vimeo’s Staff Picks channel to the big screen, work including “Bucket Board” by Supply&Demand director Mac Premo.

“Bucket Board” reveals the process and the inspiration behind the world’s first skateboard pressed out of recycled plastic buckets. Made by Mac Premo & shaper Dan Sanford the bucket board was formed from repurposed garbage to highlight the importance of environmentally conscious consumption habits for the World Wildlife Fund.

That original prototype has since grown into a fleet of boards helping underserved youths. Bucket Board recently partnered with the Chill Foundation and Stoked, two organizations helping kids learn life skills and build self-esteem through action sports.

Bucket Boards were provided for Chill, who piloted a workshop for youths to design, construct and decorate their own boards before learning how to skate. More bucket boards were given away to Stoked kids in New York and Los Angeles with trucks and wheels generously donated by Element.

“When you learn how to ride it’s a tectonic shift, the whole world around you changes,” says Premo on the Bucket Board’s potential to help kids in need. 

“The lessons you learn skateboarding apply to myriad situations in life. Skateboarding is about falling down. You have to get back up. It’s a great way for kids to learn life skills, and a great tool for self-expression.”

“Bucket Board” will screen with other curated films from Vimeo in Spotlight’s new 20-minute pre-show advertising slots across the country.
