Budweiser’s throwback to a simpler time

Directed (again) by Charles Stone III, this official parody of Budweiser’s old ad Whassup?! shows how humor can still connect us, two decades later. 

Whassup Bud 2020 is almost a shot-for-shot remake of the Whassup ad that came out nearly twenty years ago. This time instead of everyone talking about the game, the men just check in with each other, following proper social distancing procedures to makes sure that their friends are okay, even in quarantine. 

Clever, fun, and timely, Whassup Bud is just silly enough to make us think kindly of it. The 90’s-esque details perfectly capture the charm of the original without making it look too shiny, right down to the old-school aspect ratio. The ending is very sweet and reminds us all to check in on our local buds. They’re probably taking the no-sports thing pretty hard.
