Colombo Films Signs Director Mauricio Pardo

Mauricio Pardo has joined Colombo Films.

Director Mauricio Pardo has joined the Bogota-based production company Colombo Films.  He was most recently with Direktor Films, also in Bogota.

A Bogota native, Pardo studied advertising at UJTL, after which he studied cinematography at the Rockport Workshop Film School in Rockport, Maine, in the US.  He then received a scholarship in 1997 to study film direction at the Radio Nederland Training Academy in the Netherlands.

Pardo's advertising career began on the agency side, after which he began working in production as an assistant director, then went on to work as an editor of TVCs before taking up directing full time.  As an agency creative, he's worked not only in Columbia but also on assignments in Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, France, and the US. Among the awards his work has won are honors from the London International Advertising Awards, the New York Festivals and the Advertising Age Best Awards.

As a TV content producer, he's produced work for HBO, Movie City Channel, Discovery and National Geographic.  He's also written screenplays and produced short films that have screened at film festivals around the world.

Pardo was invited to participate in the Berlinale Talent Campus, an intensive six-day program for up and coming filmmakers, in 2004. He also sat on the jury of several important national film festivals in Colombia, such as Toma 5 and la Convocatoria Cinematográfica of the Colombian Ministry of Culture.  Fox Searchlab, the laboratory for new talent that's part of Fox Searchlight Pictures, signed him to develop new cinematographic projects.

He specializes in the seamless integration of visual effects with live action, which he utilizes in service of his storytelling skills.  A number of his TV spots feature digital production work and the integration of live action, CGI, green screen, and animation from 3D to stop-motion.
