A recent addition to the RSA Films roster sees comedy director Jack Cole sign for US commercial and branded entertainment work.

Cole is known for his comedy-driven projects, with recent credits including back-to-back campaigns for Red Baron, projects for AG1, Velo and Minnesota Lottery, and Little Caesars’ The Lake Giveth campaign, which picked up multiple awards in 2022.

“What I enjoy most about Jack’s work is the merging of a polished and textured aesthetic within a comedic frame, blending seamlessly VFX in places,” said Luke Ricci, President of RSA Films US. “His work speaks to a very current approach to comedic advertising and strikes a balance between humour and nuanced authentic performances.”

“I am energised and excited to build upon the work I’ve created to date,” said Cole. “I’m ambitious and wish to challenge myself with bigger opportunities, and RSA is the perfect home for this, with their stellar leadership and production expertise. I can’t wait to dig in with Luke Ricci and the team.”

Cole’s portfolio includes Octagon for Red Baron, which shows MMA fighters sharing emotional moments over pizza; Toilet for AG1, set in a stylised morning routine environment; and The Lake Giveth for Little Caesars, a spot evoking the nostalgia of camping trips.

Beyond advertising, Cole directs shorts and installation films, and works as a still photographer, with exhibitions including The National Gallery in London, Paul Smith Albemarle Street in London, Salon Art Fair in New York and the Spazio Orlandi Gallery in Milan.

“As well as my appreciation for a great gag, I’m broadly speaking a big art lover,” Cole said. “I love to spend time in the London art galleries.” He cites inspiration from painters such as Zurbaran, Caravaggio and Rembrandt, as well as contemporary artists including Ron Mueck, Grayson Perry, Alex Prager and Erwin Olaf. Music is also a significant influence, from his teenage years immersed in 1990s hip-hop to more recent interests in neo soul, nu jazz and electronica.

Cole studied film at the University for the Creative Arts in the UK, originally focusing on cinematography before moving into directing. After a short stint in the partnership LIFF with Stian Smestad, he launched a solo career inspired by directors including Spike Jonze, Jonathan Glazer and Frank Budgen. For more than a decade, he has directed campaigns for brands including Heineken, Panasonic, Google/YouTube, Reebok, Subway, Toyota and KFC, collaborating with agencies such as Mother, Droga5, BBH, AMV BBDO, BETC and Uncommon.
