London-based animation and VFX studio, Nexus, has announced the addition of Sundance prize-winning director Kibwe Tavares and Factory Fifteen to its roster of talent.
Tavares, who now will be represented for commercials globally by Nexus, won the special jury award at the festival in 2012 for his animated film "Robots of Brixton." Nexus has also struck a deal to work with Factory Fifteen, the animation and design collective founded by Tavares alongside his partners Jonathan Gales and Paul Nicholls.
Tavares was cited as one of Fast Company's '100 Most Creative People in Business 2012' and was recently awarded a prestigious TED fellowship. Recently he directed the Sundance film "JONAH," a combination of live-action shot on location in Zanzibar with beautiful visual effects created at Factory Fifteen.
Tavares created "Robots of Brixton" while pursuing a degree in architecture, at which time he also met Gales and Nicholls. Nexus will work with Tavares on developing his directing career, which has branched into live-action and VFX projects. Nexus will also develop the distinctive design and animation output of Factory Fifteen.

Factory Fifteen's diverse backgrounds range from architecture, 3d visualization, engineering, animation and photography. As a result, their multi-disciplinary talents and distinctive approach to filmmaking has been engaged by high profile brands including Samsung, Channel 4 and The British Film Institute.
The collective has won a raft of awards including the Jury prize for animation direction at the Sundance Film Festival, Best Architectural 3d Film for "Golden Age" and Best Architectural 3D Image for "Megalomania." In addition, their creative shorts and artwork have been exhibited internationally at festivals and venues such as SXSW, Onedotzeoro, Arts Electronica, Alpha-ville, The Creator's Project and The White Chapel Gallery.
Chris O'Reilly, Co-Founder, Nexus, says: "We are honored to welcome Kibwe and Factory Fifteen to the Nexus stable. Kibwe has an unusual talent in being able to blend live-action performance with visionary CG and VFX work. And further we're also delighted to work with Factory Fifteen and their talented design led moving image work. We see a bright future working with them together and separately on a broad range of projects from ambitious film and VFX projects to high-end design led moving image work"
