Annex director Mateo Willis packs emotional heft and two impressive performances into his latest short, Eulogy, detailing a moment of tension between two brothers on the eve of their father's funeral.
More recognised for his wildlife filming on landmark shows including Blue Planet 2, Planet Earth 2, Frozen Planet, and Dynasties, Willis here displays an aptitude for capturing drama - the tight camerawork and focus on reaction giving the piece a real sense of claustrophobia and tension.
"In rehearsals," continues Willis, "the two key actors developed a sense of brotherly fear, hate, even love. But we were always careful not to step too close to the edge, holding energy in reserve, letting it build.
"Then, on a single day of filming, it was just a matter of standing back and capturing the fireworks."
