We love our phones. We can’t live, eat lunch or go to the toilet without them.
We're addicted to the buzz of notifications, the ding of messages, the endlessly refreshing feeds... to the point that we can't help checking our glowing screens behind the wheel.
Recent surveys of young Australian and New Zealand drivers show that 43 per cent will try not to use their phones while driving but end up doing so anyway - with potentially fatal consequences.
To highlight the problem, NZ Transport Agency and Clemenger BBDO Wellington have come up with a clever campaign that positions the car as a safe haven from the never-ending stream of likes, tags, memes, messages and emails - in short, a place where young people can be free from the distraction of their phones, and resist its constant pull for their immediate attention. And breathe...
The spot was directed by Jakob Marky through Sweetshop Australasia.
