In preparation for their 2020 tour, the Pet Shop Boys have created a music video that people will be dying to use as drag inspo for the next six seasons.
Monkey Business is exactly as advertised. It’s a speakeasy-disco with men in sailor outfits, Freddie Mercury-inspired white-on-white, and a dance line for darling fashionistas. The video is bright and vibrant, and perfectly Pet Shop. It’s whimsical and without much of a plot, but it’s not needed as we explore the underground scene of whatever bar the boys have wandered into.
With a lot of humor and the added benefit of not taking itself too serious (or even a little seriously), Monkey Business is a lighthearted celebration of camp performance and drag culture. Directed by Vaughan Arnell through Just Fred [Arnell recently signed to Merman for commercials], Monkey Business is fun and adorable, without many inhibitions, just here, you know, for a good time or whatever.
