In this playful campaign, created by Singapore-based agency Ogilvy through Early Man Film for skincare brand Pond’s Men, Ayappa KM takes us back to ancient Indonesia to discover the origins of the air kiss.
Set in 957 BC, the film opens to reveal an opulent cult ceremony in an imposing fire-lit cave, where warriors adorned with gold jewellery bow before their ruler, one by one, to receive a kiss on the cheek.
The leader hesitates when a greasy soldier approaches him for a blessing, the light of the fire glowing in the reflection of his skin’s shimmering sheen. He awkwardly leans in and pecks the air to avoid pressing his lips against the warrior’s oily face, and thus the ‘air kiss’ is born.
