Samsung Electronics' remarkable spot – a collaboration with BMB London and Cheil Worldwide – celebrates the miniscule unsung heroes of technological progress.
Co-created by CYLNDR (BMB's in-house production wing), the film Micro Miracles features specially built models that each reference a technology that relies on semiconductors – such as video calls, gaming and space rocket launches.
The challenge was not only how to build the models but how to capture the images of them, as they were so small it was impossible to use a traditional camera.
The answer lay in state-of-the-art 3D nanoprinting and collaboration with photographer and microscopist Stefan Diller, whose nanoflight® system allows microscopic worlds to be captured with dynamic camera moves using an electron microsope.
The models were made by scanning actors in specific poses, producing 3D renders. To print the models, the team used a form of printing that allows for nanoscopic detail.
