Research has indicated that France is the European champion of dog abandonment. A title no country wants ownership of.

This point was articulated in a previous film for French animal charity 30 Millions d’Amis Foundation, called We Are the Champions, created by the Altmann+Pacreau agency. The spot caused a national debate, resulting in the initiation of a government mission.

This year, the Foundation and its agency decided to address a dramatic, little known consequence of abandonment: euthanasia. When pets are abandoned, they too often end up euthanised within seven days due to lack of space in shelters and pounds. So, there is an urgent need to make the public aware that one of the consequences of abandonment is, unfortunately, death.

The Foundation aims to do this with a new campaign called The Innocents [above]. Directed by Maïwenn, the film depicts an abandoned dog, tried and condemned by a court for having been a faithful, loving pet.
