It’s a malevolent planet floating in dark ether, a sinister snowflake, a faceless puffer fish.
However it appears to you, the image of that monstrous molecule has been used and re-used in global media over the last year till it has become burnt onto our collective retinas. Brand Covid’s spiny roundel is now a potent symbol of death.
In this strange and brilliant PSA from BBDO Bangkok, the virus is personified as Covidman. Blood red with a head of spikes, he rushes around town evading capture, terrorising potential victims who attempt to shield from him with makeshift masks or vanquish him with tiny bottles of anti-vac.
At nearly two minutes, it’s a typically Thai long-lasting ad, but the watch is rewarded with a deadly twist that questions the rationale of fearing coronavirus when other events could prove more fatal.
It’s the brainchild of Suthi Sucharittanonta, the multi-award-winning, soon-to-be retiring creative chairman of BBDO Bangkok, who will be leaving behind a legacy to be proud of.
