While most media portals are currently flooded with images of smiley peeps enjoying unbridled Yuletide jollity and socials, there are those that will be – in Elvis’s words – lonely this Christmas.

Directed and choreographed by Jacob Jonas, this exquisite piece of moving melancholia sees a troupe of dusty dancers expressing feelings of loneliness against a smudgy landscape of shadows and powdery snow.

Perfectly embodying the Australian singer's doleful lyrics about a holiday season that's proving just too quiet – “Oh, it's Christmas eve, and I can hear a snowflake fall” – the heart-rending choreography begins with those floppy feelings that desolation brings – but, as the song’s layers build, it moves to an almost joyous jerky frenzy when our lone dancer is joined by others.

Let’s hope her Christmas gets noisier.
