The Romani language is dying out. Without an extensive written history, no Romani-language press, and a dwindling number of native speakers, the Rroma people are faced with a monumental task. Saving their language has to go digital.
By teaming up with Aresel Civic Platform, Vice aims to force Google to offer Rromani translations by uploading a huge amount of written content in the Rromani language.
As Roma communities suffer from bigotry, violence, and illiteracy, Vice hopes to put their language back in the SEO spotlight. Teach Google Romani, which interviewed various Romani people, was led by McCann Bucharest.
