Winning the game, but losing the war
This impactful film exposes the irony that many US states have colleges that seek out young black athletes for their sports programs while not playing fair in terms of equal rights for voters.

Directed by Kiran Koshy through Slash United, the elegant monochrome film, YardsForVotes, depicts the dilemma faced by black students who find themselves “recruited but repressed”.
December 21 is College Signing Day, during which top NCAA football programs do their best to attract talented athletes. Many of the universities are in states where college football is "a religion" so no effort is spared in luring and enticing the best Black athletic talent in the country.
But these same universities hail from places at the forefront of Black voter suppression and disenfranchisement.
With striking cinematography from Charles Gerstner, a silvery grade from Apache and emotive music by Shindig, the film is part of the #YardsForVotes movement, which encourages recruits to consider their options and the values behind the institutions hoping to sign them.
Black athletes have a choice when assessing football programs in many states across America. They don’t have to find themselves "set up to win on Saturday but lose on election day".
