Pour yourself a glass of mulled wine, fetch yourself a mince pie and pull up a chair; the Christmas season is well and truly upon us as John Lewis has finally dropped its much anticipated Christmas campaign for this year.

Called Moz the Monster, John Lewis's 2017 festive spot lives up to expectation, applying its tried-and-tested winning formula of animals (sort of) and children to this year's offering. Featuring Elbow's rendition of the Beatles song, Golden Slumbers, as the soundtrack, adam&eveDDB again prove that they're the masters of making Christmas magical.

Directed by Partizan's Michel Gondry, who's tackling the Christmas campaign for the first time, this year's ad is about a young child who learns to befriend the monster that's hiding beneath his bed... causing him to sacrifice his evenings of sleep to enjoy playtime together. Thankfully, Moz the monster has just the gift to help the boy doze off while also reminding him of his newfound friend.

Moz is an impressively-enormous puppet controlled by two people and was brought to life by being filmed live and then later having Moz's facial expressions added in using CGI technology.

We'll have more insight into the campaign over the coming days, so stay tuned, but as an extra Christmas treat, take a look back at the advertising ghosts of John Lewis' Christmas spots past.
