Speers becomes a Smuggler
Irish Director Tom Speers signs to the London production company for representation in the UK, Europe and Asia.
Born in Dublin, Speers spent his teenage years as the camera guy in a gang of skateboarders, railroading his friends into performing skits (instead of actually skating).
Demonstrating an authentic, lyrical style, a natural ability for casting and a keen eye for beautiful photography, Speers’s debut short, Boy Saint has already gathered a handful of awards at festivals internationally and has seen him shortlisted for a YDA at Cannes Lions 2018 and New Director of the Year at the shots Awards 2018.
“From watching Boy Saint it’s clear that Tom is a natural and instinctive filmmaker," said Chris Barrett, co-managing director of Smuggler. "It’s incredibly hard to execute a film like this with such understated gravitas. The performances, story and craft seductively pull you in without clubbing you over the head with a sledgehammer. It was clear from the moment we met him that, with his infectious enthusiasm and passion for film, he would be formidable addition to the Smuggler roster.”
