One of the lesser-known symptoms of both cancer, and the treatment of it, are changes to the palate, with two out of three patients suffering such issues as a metallic taste in the mouth, or altered reactions to acidic factors, such as citrus flavours.

This impacts on their nutrition but also curbs the social aspect of enjoying eating together. Wanting to highlight this little-known topic, The Swiss Cancer League collaborated with agency Farner Consulting to launch Recipes Rewritten

An elegant and touching film, directed by Mirjam Fröhlich and Lukas Fröhlich, and produced by atem collective, follows the work of three top chefs who were asked to rewrite their signature recipes to adapt them to the changed palettes of three patients coping with cancer.

The chefs created mouth-wateringly gorgeous-looking dishes that the patients could enjoy together, one satisfied diner commenting, “the universe is opening a little again.”
