Created by Publicis Conseil and directed by Sebastian Strasser, through Grand Bazar this lovely spot, titled The New Chapter of a Great Story, references the car’s various iterations since its launch 30 years ago, while focussing on a tale of maternal devotion and a young lad's rights of passage.
It highlights just how much a car can figure in significant moments between parent and child – those impassioned chats on the way to and from footie matches, laughs with soapy sponges on carwash days, hilarious mishaps during driving lessons, even mum finding a porn mag in her son’s luggage – awks.
The beautifully acted film ends with mum-turned-granny – who has aged exceedingly well, both literally and cinematically – accompanying her grown-up son as he takes his own daughter to play football in the new hybrid Renault Clio. Gulp.
